My name is Julia Dixon, Mum to 2 grown children and 2 labradoodles. Having worked in the dental profession since 1974, I needed a new direction in which to pour my energy and enthusiasm. I have owned dogs all my life, worked as a veterinary assistant and cared for other people's dogs in my spare time.

How Pet Recess Began
When I moved to the south shore in December of 2006, I was unable to find doggie daycare for my 2 dogs, Jasper and Zoe. I realized that there was a need for a facility where owners can leave their dogs in a safe environment to be exercised, socialized and have fun. Thus, Pet Recess was born.

I purchased a small house with enough land to provide for outdoor play areas and a basement for an indoor play and sleep room.

Pet Recess opened in June of 2007 and since it has grown from 2 dogs (my own) to over 75 clients averaging 35-40 dogs per day. We care for 5 lb to 150 lb dogs, Tea Cup Yorkies to French Mastiffs. With several new dogs enrolling every week, we are constantly growing and continue to enrich the lives of our dogs and their owners.

Pet Recess moved into the larger facility in August of 2010 and became a Corporation in October 2010.

Our Facility
Pet Recess has 2500 sq ft of climate controlled indoor play area, 2 outdoor play areas full of fun toys, climbers and a trampoline outdoors. In the summer months the dogs enjoy splashing in the wading pools.

All the dogs take a well earned rest in the nap room from 12-2pm. Snacks and comfy blankets are provided.
